With so many people getting tattoos these days, one of the main issues is how to hide them, especially in a professional setting. While many may try to cover them up by wearing tights, this doesn’t always work. Does the tattoo show through an issue or a fashion statement? There are arguments for both!

Lots of people want to get tattoos so they can show them off. But, this is not always appropriate. While you may love your tattoos and be admired by them in a social setting, in a conservative workplace they may not be as welcome. They can look very unprofessional and won’t bring you the kind of respect you’ll need if you want to continue your career. In this case, tattoos showing through stockings would definitely be a problem.

The way to avoid this would be to wear opaque tights instead of thin pantyhose, the thicker the better. If you need to make a good impression, you shouldn’t let even the slightest clue show. As long as the tattoo isn’t showing, you can go about your day knowing that you look professional, but knowing all the while that you have a cheeky side waiting to be revealed.

However, in places where one’s appearance doesn’t have to be as professional or in social settings, tattoos that show through pantyhose can definitely make a fashion statement. People who admire tattoos will certainly throw you some admiring glances, and if there’s no reason to hide them, you can proudly pull them off.

In fact, the look is becoming so popular that tights are even available to buy with tattoo designs printed on them. The trend was started by British model Lily Cole in one of her adverts, and it has skyrocketed ever since. A host of tights manufacturers are printing ever more complex designs onto their sheer tights to give people ready-to-wear tattoos without the pain of real ones, with a wide variety of styles and designs to choose from. Some people even choose to create their own DIY versions, so they can have the exact design they’re looking for.

The question of whether see-through-tights tattoos are a problem or a fashion statement largely comes down to the environment you find yourself in. If you’re in a professional workplace, that’s definitely a problem, as you’re highly unlikely to be taken seriously and can come off as very unprofessional. However, in a more relaxed setting, it can certainly make a fashion statement. But, if you are happy to show your tattoos and the situation allows it, why cover them up?
