Stone Mountain Park, located sixteen miles east of downtown Atlanta, is a popular destination any time of the year. As the weather turns colder, there are special reasons to visit the park. A Stone Mountain Christmas and Snow Mountain attract many visitors looking for activities for the whole family.

Stone Mountain Christmas is an Atlanta holiday favorite for many families. The park is transformed for the holidays with more than 2 million lights. Special Christmas activities are scheduled through January 2, 2011. Entertainment includes holiday shows such as the Holly Jolly Cabaret Show, Sleigh Ride Musical Revue and Simply Christmas Musical Revue. Families can enjoy watching the Polar Express 4-D experience and the nightly Christmas parade. Children can visit Santa Claus and take a photo with the snow angel. December 11 is opening day for Snow Mountain Park, Atlanta’s only snow park. No previous experience is necessary to enjoy the activities, and all equipment is included in the price of admission. Families can enjoy tubing down the park’s 400-foot snow-capped hill. Tube Runners offers ten single-tube bike lanes, and the new Avalanche Alley has three multi-bike lanes. The Snow Zone area offers a number of entertainment options. Young children can tube and make a snowman or snow angel in Snowman Valley. Igloo City is the place to build a snow fort or snow town. The snowball shooting gallery allows visitors to practice their aim while shooting snowballs at targets that spin and flip. New to the park this year is Fort Snow, where guests can explore medium-sized tunnels, turrets, and slides. Angelitos is an area designed for children under 3 years of age to play in the snow. The Snodeck allows people to take a break from playing in the snow and enjoy food and drinks. At the end of the day, guests can warm up and make S’mores by the campfire in the Snofire area.

Visitors can spend the day enjoying all that Stone Mountain has to offer. In addition to the special winter activities, the park’s regular attractions are all open. So bundle up the family and head over to Stone Mountain Park for some winter fun.
