The Samsung Galaxy Note and HTC Sensation XL offer two of the largest touch screens of any smartphone on the market today. In this article I will compare the screens of both phones so that you can decide which one is better.

The Samsung Galaxy Note is currently the highest-spec smartphone on Samsung’s list. A big part of this phone’s appeal is the display. It measures 5.3 inches and features an incredible 800x 1280 pixel resolution and a specially designed ‘smart’ stylus (or ‘S-Pen’ according to Samsung). In fact, due to the large screen size, the Galaxy Note is considered by many to be the first true smartphone/tablet hybrid. Regardless of which category you think it falls into, the display on this device is one of the best out there. The combination of its high pixel resolution, large size and Super AMOLED Plus panel produces fantastic display quality of on-screen images and makes the device particularly suitable for multimedia use such as watching HD videos, photo slideshows, playing games or view websites with embedded videos or flash graphics.

The HTC Sensation XL also has one of the largest smartphone screens around, but at 4.7 inches, it doesn’t really qualify as a tablet. The screen is a bit less advanced in terms of resolution (480x 800), but because the screen is smaller as well, it still results in an impressive 199 ppi pixel density. The display of the HTC Sensation XL also differs in terms of the display technology used. Instead of the Galaxy Note’s Super AMOLED Plus panel, the Sensation XL has a capacitive S-LCD display like the original Sensation and Sensation XE. This technology is well known for its brightness, color rendering and levels of detail. On paper, the Samsung Galaxy Note stands out, thanks to its higher resolution and larger size, but obviously, everyone wants a phone that big. Unless you’re familiar with the intricacies of smartphone display technology, you’re unlikely to notice the difference, and you’re sure to be impressed with the HTC Sensation XL.

Screens aside, both phones offer impressive spec lists. Both phones have an 8-megapixel camera, the latest version of Android (via an over-the-air update) called Ice Cream Sandwich, and powerful processors. The Galaxy Note has a more powerful 1.4GHz dual-core processor, compared to the Sensation XL’s 1.5GHz single-core processor.

Both phones offer a number of impressive features, but it must be said that the Samsung Galaxy Note is superior in several aspects. However, the HTC Sensation XL is still a great option, especially for those who want a stylish smartphone with great music-playing credentials.
