The Buck series in Wing-T Offense is a fantastic series for attacking opponents. Wing-T trainers can isolate a player and make his life miserable.

The Buck series uses only four plays (although you can certainly add more). Here we will focus on the running game, with the Buck Sweep, Gut, and Inside Trap play.

Also, we will have a Play-Action Pass Play outside of the Buck Series.

The beauty of stock soccer is that blocking up front follows simple rules that your Offensive Line can apply to any defensive front. Meanwhile, the backfield action barely changes from play to play, giving the defense the same picture for four different plays.

The dollar sweep

The first work in our series is Buck Sweep. In a simple Wing-T play, this will be move 121. The first number tells us that we will be using Formation 100. The next number, 2, is the Buck series. All the plays in the Buck series use the same backfield action. The last number, 1, tells us that we will exit to the right: the hole we are attacking.

The same move to the other side would be move 929.

Wing-T Buck Sweep The Buck Sweep involves a kick by the front side guard on the forced player, while the back side guard rolls the hole. Play-side linemen use their Gap-Down-Backer rules.

The Fullback runs a trap route, to contain the Inside Linebackers.

The left halfback is taking the ball and replacing the Fullback’s feet. As he gets to the edge, he’s cutting the field. The Buck Sweep is not a wide sweeping game. It has to come under the Guard block.

the dollar trap

The Buck Trap is the next play we’ll be working on in the series. This play is known as the 124 Buck Trap.

Buck Series Trap

In the inside trap game, we are using the back guard to throw and kick the first player out of the A Gap on the game side. We should be able to get a double team with a head guard up and then work the Linebacker.

The key teaching point for the back is to follow the guard and cut the Center block. If the Nose Keeper were to push over the top in the direction of the trap block, the RB should be able to cut it off and take the play to get positive distance to the other side.

If the inside linebackers flow hard into the Buck Sweep, the inside trap should be open for big gains in the middle.

the gut game

The Gut play, or 122 Gut, offers a variation on the blocking scheme while still using the same backfield action. The Gut Trap will look very similar to the Buck Sweep.

122 Buck Series Gut

The Gut Block involves the Guard dodging a downward block by the Tackle and becoming a Linebacker. The opening action of the play is the same as what you would see in the Buck Sweep.

the wiggle

In order for the Buck series to be as effective as possible, we should be able to launch the ball with a similar action. The quarterback needs to carry out the fakes on him at all times to make the Buck Series Waggle a devastating play.

By being able to throw the ball out of his Buck Series, he will prevent the secondary from getting too close to his running plays.

Play out the action of the Wing-T Buck series

The 121 Waggle offers a different look than the Offensive Line to protect the starting QB action, but the backfield action will look the same.

The Quarterback needs to get out of his charade by looking for a reaction from Free Safety. If the Safety is in the middle of the field, he will have the option of throwing the fly ball route to the #1 receiver, hitting the flat back route, or running the ball if both receivers are covered.

The Wing-T Buck Series is just one example of Wing-T series football, and how you can confuse your opponent with this devastating offensive philosophy.
