In case you haven’t heard, Sony announced around March 11, 2010 at the Game Developers Conference that it would be releasing a handheld controller called the Sony Move. Sony Move is a motion-controlled video game controller that allows users to physically control movements on their television screen. As you may have guessed, this is intended to be a competitor to the Nintendo Wii. The Sony Move is priced at under $100, which is great considering the economy right now and is aiming for a fall 2010 release date.

The Sony Move is a hand-sized black wand with a white light-up ball on top. It also has an accessory controller that resembles the Nintendo Wii’s nun-chuck and is to be used for the same purposes. Included with this package is something that Sony has created called the PlayStation Eye Camera, this will allow characters on the screen to mimic the voice, abilities and movements of the users. In addition to the release of this bundle, Sony has more than 20 Move-compatible games coming out at the same time, all created by high-end developers like EA Sports, Activision, etc.

So what does this mean for PlayStation 4?

We don’t really know at this point… although it’s safe to say that with the PlayStation 3 (PS3) starting to gain popularity and the addition of the Sony Move, this current PS3 gaming console could last for a while… We might venture to say that this means the PlayStation 4 release date will be pushed back even further than its planned 2012 date, but we don’t really know. Nobody does… all we can recommend at the moment is to buy the Sony Move and have fun using it on your PS3!

However, we expect the PS4 to still launch when we assume it will, and we can’t wait. With this technology being added to the PS3, there’s no telling what to expect from the PlayStation 4, in fact, this new release may make us wonder even more what kind of features it will have.
