Many of us are dealing with health problems and / or aging problems today – ours, our family members, and our friends. It is difficult to take care of ourselves when we have to take care of others, when we feel scared and anxious. The first thing we must do is our routines.

I’ve put together a list of basics that I hope will help you:

A good place to start is the most basic level of food, water, and sleep. Keep things very simple and nutritious with food. If you can’t sleep, consider natural remedies or even medication.

Get out into nature for even just 5 minutes to cool off and change your energy. Move your body while you are out there. The more you do this, the more your body-mind-spirit will yearn for it.

Get support from others – friends and family if they are not too caught up in their own feelings. Call a crisis line if necessary; That’s what they’re in the phone book for!

Spend a few minutes every day alone in silence. This will help you release your loads and the loads of others you may be carrying. In stillness you will receive guidance.

And finally, BREATHE! … the first line of defense. Take a deep breath through your nose, hold it there for as long as is comfortable, and then blow as much air out of your mouth as possible. Repeat this for up to 5 breaths. Post-its or set 15-minute timers as a reminder.

If you are going through a crisis or going through a lot right now, just start using these basics. They certainly won’t hurt you and will probably help you.
