A beginner’s guide to working with a pendulum

Would you like to find lost objects? answer puzzling questions find your lucky numbers? I bet you will. Have you ever seen someone use a ‘forked twig’ (called dowsing) to locate groundwater? Even if you haven’t seen this in real life, you must have seen it in the movies. How come some people can find water and others can’t? Is it something magical or is it something inherent to everyone?

What is downsizing? Well, it is a technique where the psychic or sensitive faculty of the brain can be used to acquire information that is not normally registered by the everyday/conscious mind. A forked twig is used to find water, held outward as the dowser encounters the subterranean flow, the rod begins to jerk (sometimes violently) downward. The water does not have to flow, it can be still. I will not go into detail about the forked twig, but I will explain another, even simpler method of Dowsing (or divination) The Pendulum. To make your own pendulum, all you need is a piece of cotton (or string) and a small weight. Your weight can be glass, your favorite crystal, metal, wood, or plastic—anything small enough to carry with you. Its cotton length should be about 30 cm. Having made your pendulum, you need to hold it (between thumb and forefinger) in the hand opposite to the hand you write with.

Step One: First, you need to set a code for yes or no. Most people find that a clockwise movement means yes and a counterclockwise movement means no. A few experiments will soon reveal YOUR code. Sometimes a movement from side to side or from front to back occurs. Again, a little experimentation will let you know what means yes and what means no. Try this simple (but effective) experiment: fill a plate with water, hold your pendulum over the plate, relax your mind as best you can, and ask the question: “Does the plate contain water?” You know yes, all you are trying to figure out is the movement your Pendulum is going to take for a ‘yes’ answer.

Try it again with an empty plate and note the direction your pendulum is taking. He experiments like this for a few days until he feels comfortable holding his pendulum and finds out which direction means ‘yes’ or ‘no’. When the pendulum moves, it does NOT move on its own, but is subconsciously controlled by subtle muscle movements; your muscle movements. Remembering at all times that it is NOT the Pendulum, the one that is answering the questions; it is the psychic faculty of your own mind. At first, people tend to think that some mysterious force is acting and they are completely consumed by this magical force. Rest assured this is not the case, it is all happening from within you, controlled by YOU.

Step Two: After you’ve experimented for a while, it’s only fair at this stage to bring up what’s going on. As with all other psychic techniques, from tarot cards, clairvoyance to extrasensory perception, dowsing can provide information about the past, present, and future. All you need to know are a few simple steps. At all times when you are experimenting with the pendulum, keep an open mind and restrict your testing to 20-30 minutes every two to three days. Don’t fall into the trap of asking your Pendulum everyday questions like “should I do the laundry?”

Step Three: Let’s say you’re thinking about changing jobs or asking for a raise, maybe even moving house. You should sit in your favorite chair, relaxing your mind. Write your question on a piece of paper, and then hold your pendulum above your notepad. In a short time you will notice that the Pendulum moves and according to its direction you would take your answer from there. Suppose you received a YES answer to whether you should change jobs. Now you can develop your answer by asking another question: When? You need to write a list of options i.e. next week, next month, 6-8 weeks etc.

Hold your pendulum over each option and you should receive your corresponding answer. You can use this technique for a wide variety of questions, while keeping an open mind as to the responses received. Another question could be: What are my lucky numbers? You would then write a list from 1 to 100 and using your pendulum, hold it over each number asking yes or no. Next, you need to write down all the numbers considered lucky. You may want to use these numbers the next time you try Lotto, Keno, Pools, etc. For those who are really interested in using the Pendulum for betting, you can pick horses in any race using the method above. Keeping in mind at all times that the information comes from within you and not from anywhere else, if you manage to pick some winners or win some jackpots it is only because the information was there all along.

Step Four: In addition to the fun you can have with Step Three, there is another useful and dramatic demonstration of pendulum dowsing that I would like to share with you: finding lost objects. As an experiment, ask someone to hide something from you, and then ask your Pendulum a series of questions. You should be able to locate the hidden object. Let’s say your friend hid your wedding ring in a jar in the kitchen. You would start your series of questions by asking if he was in the house, the living room, the hallway, etc. Once you’ve located the room, it’s just a matter of figuring out if it’s high or low. Maybe even walk into the room and let the pendulum guide you (as you get closer it should swing wildly). You may not be successful on your first few attempts, but if you persevere, you’ll soon become more and more accurate.

Step Five – When planning your vacation (once you’ve picked a few winners), you should write a list of places you’d like to visit and ask the Pendulum which one is the most favorable and plan accordingly. Even if you find yourself lost (and you’ve gotten adept at using your pendulum), you can still ask for directions, with or without a map! Here are some other suggestions. Ask simple questions to start (so you can check the answers right away), questions like: Is there any mail in the mailbox? Have someone hide something and hold their pendulum to try to locate it. Ask someone to place a coin in one of the three upturned cups and see if they can spot the coin. Once again I repeat, the Pendulum moves because YOU make it move, the responses received are coming from YOU and nowhere else.
