Wrath of the Lich King: the new types of missions

The new Wrath of the Lich King quest types have probably been the biggest area of speculation and excitement in the lead up to the release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. Well, the speculation is over and the excitement is just beginning.

Having completed potentially thousands of quests in the world of Azeroth, then battled through new content in Outland, an update was probably being overdue. “Variety is…” they say, “the spice of life,” and Blizzard has provided plenty of spice in their latest expansion pack, Wrath of the Lich King.

Since the announcement of the WotLK Expansion, speculation has rife as to what exactly might appear in the new content. Well now we know, and it looks like the serious (oxymoron?) fun is about to begin; the new game has a plethora of new mission types to keep you busy for months to come.

Generally speaking, most previous quests in World of Warcraft revolved around killing a set number of mobs or looting a predetermined number of items. While there was a certain level of creativity in doing these things, the sheer volume of quests sometimes made the tasks somewhat mundane and possibly even repetitive.

Wrath of the Lich King is a breath of fresh air when it comes to new types of quests. The Gathering and Kill quests are of course back, but now you’ll also have a handful of new quest types to learn. These new missions include:

  •          Lore and past missions – No restrictions to present, but including not so. Along the lines of Caverns of Time, just with your normal quests and in the live game world.
  •          chasing mobs – This quest type allows you to chase and capture mobs, instead of just killing them.
  •          Siege weapons and vehicles – They are not only available for PvP, but will also be part of your normal quests.

These additions are just a taste of the considerable new content that has been added to your quest lists in Wrath of the Lich King.

In addition to these, Blizzard has added a number of new daily quests, available starting at level 68. This means you can take them on without the help of your flying mount, from the moment you set foot in Northrend.

Generally speaking, your gameplay options have been expanded considerably, making the entire gaming experience much deeper and more enjoyable (as if that weren’t the case). Whitewater rafting will have you screaming for more!
