It’s the middle of the day. You go inside to look at your hermit crabs and discover that they are locked up together. You wonder, why are my hermit crabs locked up together? Well, there is an easy explanation for this. Your crabs are locked together because they are fighting. Fighting over a shell that both want and that only one can have.
Your crabs are bonded because a crab saw a shell it liked and decided it wants it as its new shell. When a crab decides that there is a shell that he wants to have, he will decide to fight for it. He knows that he wants this shell for himself and he is determined to get it. So, he takes what he wants, whether or not there’s another hermit crab in it or not. He will decide to kill the other crab that is in the shell and take the shell from him, because he wants it for himself. That’s why your crabs are locked together. When they fight, the crab that wants the shell will climb on the hermit crab in the tank and try to rip its claws out, so that he can’t fight back when the first crab knocks him out of the shell. This is how and why your hermit crabs are locked up together.
It’s not a pretty place when you see your crabs locked up, because it usually means they’ll fight to the death. Now, if you’re there when it happens, you can usually try to break them up so they don’t fight anymore and hope neither of you got hurt. These crabs can be very selfish, and when they see something they want, they are determined to get it. It’s like there’s a million dollars in that shell, and no matter what’s at stake, they’re going to get that shell. Most of the time, the crab that wants the new shell usually wins the fight, and the other crab ends up dying or getting torn apart.
Once your crabs are attached, the only thing you can try to do is pull them apart. It’s not a good idea to keep them in the same cage, because you risk your crabs reuniting and the fight continuing. Make sure they are completely separate and in different tanks, or you will just wake up to see that your crabs are back together or one of them is dead.
The best thing you can do to prevent your hermit crabs from becoming entangled is to have a large number of shells in the tank or cage, along with different sizes. This will usually prevent crabs from becoming entangled in a shell. There are some crabs out there that are bound and determined to get what they want no matter the cost, and some crabs will end up locked together because of it. You can have 50 of the same shell, but if your hermit crab has decided that it wants the one that already has a crab, it will do whatever it takes to get this shell. There are just a few out there, who don’t care. That’s why no matter what you do, your crabs can end up locked together. The only other option you have is to have them somewhere where you can keep a close eye on them. Then, if your crabs are locked together, you can try separating them permanently. Just try to watch carefully and do whatever it takes to prevent your hermit crabs from getting tangled together.
