The casino game is very popular at the moment and every day it is more so. In my area, for example, there is a new casino with an exclusive hotel and two restaurants. Despite the fact that rooms cost more than the best hotel chains in the city, there are rarely vacancies on weekends.

I went once when they first opened and it was fun. I played a few machines, had an expensive drink, and tried the buffet, which was very good and reasonably priced too. It was definitely better than the hot dogs and weak coffee that the local harness trail serves. But I’ve never been back and probably won’t.

Why? Well, because I am a dog player, not a player. I know it may seem like a contradiction in terms, but it is true. If he just enjoyed the game, I wouldn’t care what he bet on. A true gambler will bet on two raindrops falling through a window pane if he can get someone to accept his bet.

I put dogs at a disadvantage to make money out of it. I prefer to call it “selective investing” rather than gambling. What I do is the same thing investors do when they put their money in stocks that they think are going to pay off because the company is doing well.

I put my money on bets that I think are going to pay off because the ticket dogs will do well. As the investor who makes money in the market, I have reason enough to make a profit. My dogs go in more often than they don’t.

Now maybe there is someone out there who can tell me how to do the same with slots, but I haven’t met him yet. I know there are formulas and math books that claim to tell you how to “get the system going” and make the slot machines pay off. I think they are silly.

From what I can tell, the only skill required to win at slots is bladder control and an endless supply of money. Give me a race with 8 dogs and I can put myself at a disadvantage. Give me a machine with a computer for a brain and I don’t have a chance to use the skill to beat it.

No, I might stop by for food once in a while, but when it comes to making money, I stick with my tried and true methods of greyhound handicapping and hit the dog track as often as I can. I recommend that you find a good handicap method and do the same.
